Arcturus Delivers Motorola ColdFire™ 5282 Solution and Joins Design Alliance Program

Compact Off-The-Shelf Solution For OEM Developers

Toronto, Canada, February 18, 2003 - Arcturus Networks' Industrial Controls Group, today announced the availability of uCdimm ColdFire 5282. Additionally, the company announced it has joined Motorola's Design Alliance Program.

Arcturus uCdimm ColdFire 5282™
The uCdimm ColdFire 5282 is fourth product in a family of module based embedded hardware and software devices that dramatically reduce the development cycle for OEMs, helping to get their product to market faster. The uCdimm is a complete embedded hardware and software solution built into a compact business card sized form factor and easily designed into end product through a soDIMM edge connector.

The uCdimm reduces an OEM development cycle by providing a fully qualified off-the-shelf hardware and software platform that stays with the developer from the beginning of the design cycle through to end product snap-in integration. This helps OEMs get their product to marker faster and reduces development risk.

Arcturus has built a series of Motorola based products including previous designs featuring the DragonBall MC68VZ328, MC68EZ328, M68EN360 and ColdFire MCF5272 microcontrollers. Arcturus uCdimms have seen broad adoption across various verticals in numerous applications including; portable gaming devices, micro-turbines, dental imaging equipment, vehicle location devices, industrial control automation equipment, fire / alarm panels, building security / access systems and military field equipment.

"Motorola has been very supportive of our efforts and we believe with our work in creating uClinux, that Motorola and their customers have benefited from our technology," said Michael Durrant, Arcturus VP Engineering. "We look forward to continuing to work closely with Motorola as a member of the Design Alliance program and continue to apply our technology to their devices."

"By forming alliances with industry-leading firms like Arcturus, we're helping our customers connect quickly with experienced design resources. This helps extend the capabilities of our semiconductor solutions and accelerates our customers' time-to-market," said Gary Streber, North American Design Alliance Program Manager.

Product Features
The uCdimm ColdFire 5282 is based on the innovative Motorola MCF5282 ColdFire RISC processor and includes 16MB SDRAM, 4 or 8 MB of NOR flash, 100BaseT Ethernet Controller and a CAN 2.0 bus controller to enable the connectivity of other CAN devices. CAN, originally an automotive standard is an electrically isolated, simple two-wire serial interface that supports speeds up to 1Mbit and distances up to 10,000m. The development kit includes everything an OEM developer needs, including; uCdimm microcontroller module, uCevolution Host Development Platform, uClinux 2.4.x software distribution, power supply, cable kit and hardware / software reference guide.
